I recently got my mouse to work with it's scroll wheel (https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-2836550.html#2836550), but I have a new problem. When in the X enviroment, I cannot use [ctrl]-[alt]-[f1] to get to the pure commandline enviroment. I can post my xorg.conf if it is needed. I want to get into the commandline to do root things. I know I can use 'su' but I like it this way.

I had this problem a while ago with an old 64 bit install. This message will not be much help, but I remember there was a very simple solution, it just took me a whole hell of a lot of googling to find it. That was a while ago though, and sadly I cannot remember what it was. I even mounted my old root partition and spent a good deal of time looking through config files trying to remember or find it, but I have had no luck. I can only say that my solution was not in my xorg.conf, and advise you that there is a deceptively simple solution out there that only requires a good deal of time spent googling. _________________ AMD 64 3200+ on GA-KV8T800 MB

check xorg.conf.
Code: | # Uncomment this to disable the <Crtl><Alt><Fn> VT switch sequence
# (where n is 1 through 12). This allows clients to receive these key
# events.
# Option "DontVTSwitch"

I did check it and that option is commented out. I am using Gnome not KDE.

Did you try just "pc104" as XkbModel? |

VoVaN, I treid the option you said, but it did not work. I changed something else, out of curiousity. The line:
Code: | Option "XkbVariant" "us" |
I changed to:
Code: | Option "XkbVariant" "" |
and now it works. |

I have the same problem, but only for GNOME sessions. Under KDE, which is my default DM, everything's normal.
The thing is that I just installed GNOME to try it out, so I can't find my way through it, yet. Is there any place where I could check if the Crtl+Alt+Fn key combos are disabled?
As a bonus (!?), I checked the Gnome keyboard control panel, and I everytime I tried to modify the set up I get an error regarding libxklavier. What is amazing is that I just performed an "emerge -e world" two days ago and everything compiled without a blink. The problem _only_ appears under GNOME. I even re-emerged libxklavier, to no avail. However, other Ctrl+Alt key combos work, like Crtl+Alt+Del to log out.
Any clue on why this happens is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. |

Since it is only happening in Gnome, have you looked through Desktop -> Preferences -> Keyboard (all tabs), and also through the Accessibility button? I've had similar oddities happen within Windows due to corrupted settings. _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |

I had a similar problem (https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-400364.html), and I just found a semi-satisfactory solution: I uncommented the following line in my xorg.conf:
Code: | Option "XkbDisable" |
And now it works. Of course, I also lose all the xkb extensions... |

If you loose Ctrl + Alt + Fx when you choose kdm logger, it might be a wrong Keyboard disposiition in your KDE control center |
