This is my .config, if it helps

Have you tried updating your reiser4 partition already?

I had the same problem (desktop hanging after a fewminutes) after nitro-2.6.13.2 (incl. acid-2.6.14-rc4 and 2.6.14 ofcourse). I just updated my reiser4 partition to 1.0.5 and the problem went away.

BTW: Tanks Tiger, great job.

I have 1.0.5 reiser4 partitions on my box too, so that will probably be the problem.

Use RIP linux for reiser4progs-1.0.5 AND appropriate reiser4 version in kernel if you want to update safely.

cheers,

T

Under, "Memory model" choose something else than "Discontiguous Memory", preferably "Sparse Memory".
Then the kernel should compile....

PS: hibernate script has nothing to do with kernel compile-errors ;)

Ok, I found the patch which fuX0red it up, it was block-cleanups-add-kconfig-default-iosched-submenu.patch.
Anyways it's running now, nice work.
PS: Do you have any good advice on .config settings performance wise?

Having trouble getting 1920x1200 working with vesafb-tng ... my console and wm both default to 1600x1200, even though I chose 1920x1200 in the kernel options...

hmm, sounds more like hardware support issue,

btw, wtf do you set such a resolution, i don't know of any monitors supporting it even...
vesafb-tng patch is EXACTLY the same as in previous acid and last nitro.....

Plenty of monitors do to that res, you know, the large widescreen LCD monitors (mmm apple cinema displays....) and such, any half decent graphics card should support it too.

just wanted to report that this acid kernel is working great for me, finally I can use something other than 2.6.12 nitro 5. I updated my reiser4 partition to 1.0.5 but now I have noticed that certain applications take forever to open and load. FOr example, gedit takes around 40 seconds just to start becoming reponsive. Other applications are unaffected. ipw2200 also seems to be fixed with this release, except for the fact that 2.6.14 reverted back to and old version of ipw2200 that doesn't support monitoring.

btw, i really miss the usb timing patch. my trackpad doesn't feel as good with the default USB reporting rate. Same goes for mouse.

I will use this as my main kernel and report back how things are going. Nice work!

It seems that net.ppp0 is started before net.eth0 gets up. How should a 'depend net.eth0' function look like, to include in the net.ppp0 init script?

O(1) is NOT an io scheduler, its a cpu-scheduler, like staircase.
Because i do not use plugsched it is also the ONLY one, thats whay there's no menu for it.

Hi,

Ndiswrapper 1.4 fails to compile against acid-sources, so I'll stay with ck-sources. The error is something about failing to re-define ktree in one of the ndiswrapper source files.

Cheers,

Ok, i now this is kind a relative , and i gotta test it first, but not much time at the moment, what do you guys think are the best faster and most kick ass sources :

- Nitro sources

The one you forgot.

-ArchCK sources.

All the same, each patchset has it's own merits and goals, so comparing them is going to incite fire. This really should be a seperate thread, anyway, this thread doesnt need to be polluted with this.

btw, babykart, there's a patch on LKML for the missing second drive issue. It'll be in the next archck.

Hi there,

I have noticed that with acid1 sources I am getting alot of application hangs. Especially from multi threaded applications such as amarok. I was using the nitro sources with the staircase cpu scheduler beforehand and was not experiencing the same issues.

Also had some complete system lock ups.

I have tried playing with IO schedulers aswell and still getting alot more jerky behaviour than even vanila 2.6.14

I'm going to revert back to a patchset that implements a different scheduler for the timebeing.. at least on my setup the 0(1) scheduler does not seem to be a good match. (I thought it was an IO scheduler, initially... my bad)
