Hi,

I am trying to install gentoo on my aluminum powerbook G4 1Ghz, and genkernel is failing

(is there a standard naming convention, like a model numer, for apple hardware?)

Code:

(chroot)
(build base system from gcc-3.4.4-r1)
emerge genkernel gentoo-sources
genkernel --kernel-config=/usr/share/genkernel/ppc/G4 all

genkernel fails like so:

Code:

 * udev: >> Compiling...
COMMAND: make j1  KERNEL_DIR=/usr/src/linux USE_KLIBC=true USE_LOG=false DEBUG=false udevdir=/dev all etc/udev/udev.conf
* Gentoo Linux Genkernel; Version 3.3.6
* Running with options: --kernel-config=/usr/share/genkernel/ppc/G4 all

* ERROR: Failed to compile the "KERNEL_DIR=/usr/src/linux USE_KLIBC=true USE_LOG=false DEBUG=false udevdir=/dev all etc/udev/udev.conf" target...

* -- End log... --

* Please consult /var/log/genkernel.log for more information and any
* errors that were reported above.

* Report any genkernel bugs to bugs.gentoo.org and
* assign your bug to genkernel@gentoo.org. Please include
* as much information as you can in your bug report; attaching
* /var/log/genkernel.log so that your issue can be dealt with effectively.
*
* Please do *not* report compilation failures as genkernel bugs!
*

Code:

* udev: >> Compiling...

* Gentoo Linux Genkernel; Version 3.3.6

not much to go on there...

recommendations?

cat /proc/cpuinfo should report back something like Powerbook x,y, but giving the cpu info and screen size is probably good enough.

It also helps removing some of the IP_CONNTRACK support, as that tends to have some compilation problems as well with this kernel version.

I'll try both of these and report back.
