Final Fantasy VIII - has anyone gotten it working?

I tried loading it in cedega and it just killed the entire system forcing a hard reset. has anyone ever tried getting the FF's working?

The game is rated a 1 (unplayable) in playability on transgaming.org's game database, so I wouldn't have much hope of it working with cedega.

On the other hand, there is a report on the Wine Application Database of someone getting 8 to work in plain Wine:

No reports of 7 working though.

I've got FF7 PC version, didn't feel like dicking around with WINE, and the PC version wasn't as good as the PS version anyway. So I "acquired" the PS version and ran it on ePSXe. Seems a little buggy though. Battle transitions don't work and there are some weird artefacts.
