I am running 2.6.13-gentoo-r3 on a P4 2.0 Ghz cpu on a "Via" motherboard and i cant figure out why i cant get certain conbinations of keypresses to work when playing games. I know it isnt a problem with a specific game because it occurs in both the games that i play namely enemy-territory/et-truecombat and americas-army.
When i play E.T. I need to press the "W" key and the "Shift" key to sprint forward. When i need to strafe left or right while sprinting i need to press either the "A"(left) or the "D"(right) key while pressing "Shift" and "W". Initially i noticed that i could sprint forward while strafing right (Pressing "SHIFT"+"W"+"D") but could not sprint forward while strafing right (Pressing "SHIFT"+"W"+"L") I would only be sprinting forward and the additional "L" key had no effect. I thought this was a keyboard problem so i replaced my generic PS/2 keyboard with a USB one but the problem is still there but the effects are reversed, meaning i can now strafe left while sprinting but not right.
I brought both keyboards in to work and tried them on a similar machine (P4 2.4 Ghz Abit intel ICH5 board same kernel) but they both worked fine on that system. I then reinstalled my system from scratch (stage1) but that hasnt fixed the problem. I suspect that this might be a problem with my motherboard but cant figure out how that would cause such selective keyboard paralysis.
I have searched the forums for any mention of this kind of phenomenon but cant any. Anyone have any idea what the problem could be? |
