I just updated 140 packages today and now the panel, with the taskbar plugin, has gone nuts on me. The titles on the taskbar buttons have gone past their boundries. It's hard to explain. So I am including a link to an image and a listing of all the packages I just updated.

http://150.135.84.22/brims/instpkgs.txt

As you can see, to the right of the pager, it says "Gentoo Forums :: Index" the "ex" in index are overlapping thenext taskbar button. I'm running xfce 4.2.2. As you can see in the package listing, I tried recompiling xfce4-taskbar and xfce4-panel, neither did anything. With the suggestion of a fellow XFCE user, I changed my theme to a few to try to fix this problem. All without luck. Any help would be appreciated. I'm not sure after which package the panel/taskbar took a dive. If I knew, I would try to compile the x86 version instead of the ~x86 version.

Use putfile.com or something similar to upload your screenshots... Your links are dead. :(

Either wait for xfce 4.2.3 or downgrade to gtk+-2.6 to fix the problem.

I have the same problem with gtk+2.8 and xfce 4.2.2.

Are they really planning to release a 4.2.3?

Sweet, downgrading to gtk+ 2.6 worked. I hardmasked >=2.7, and it will stay that way until xfce 4.2.3 is released. Thank you for your help mark_alec. rouben, I'm sorry you couldn't access those 2 files, you should have been able to. As one of the admins of that machine, I will look into the problem. bladus, downgrade to gtk+ 2.6 it fixed the problem. If you are unsure how I hardmasked gtk+, if you already know how, disregard the rest of this post:
Code:
echo ">=x11-libs/gtk+-2.7" >> /etc/portage/package.mask
then
Code:
emerge =x11-libs/gtk+-2.6.10
(you can look under /usr/portage/x11-libs/gtk+/ at the available versions.)

Since i really don't want to downgrade and were searching the web for a solution, i found the "taskbar-gtk-2.8.patch" for libxfcegui4 in portage.
The stable version of libxfcegui4 - "libxfcegui4-4.2.2" - doesn't apply this patch but the libxfcegui4-4.2.2-r1 does, so just update to libxfcegui4-4.2.2-r1 and the overlapping is fixed.
It work's fine on my sys :)

Well, so my machine will stop complaining that I've hard masked GTK+ when I try to update my system, I will try this fix, hopefully it works on my system as well.

EDIT: That solution didn't work for me, so I'm going back to GTK+ 2.6.10. Guess I'll wait for XFCE 4.2.3 or later.

Updating to libxfcegui4-4.2.2-r1 (and recompiling xfce4-taskbar) worked just fine, thank you very much.
