|
|
Hey all,
we have a server that has a shared 160GB drive, and we need to dual-boot windows and linux on this box. Now my questions is (please, I know it's stupid, if it was up to me I'd only run linux, but this is what has to happen), how should we format the drive so that we can read and write to and from it, when either Windows or Linux is running. I have considered ntfs, but linux write support is shaky, and I have no idea how to mount a ext3 drive from Windows, please, any tips are appreciated.

fat32 is what you are going to want. |

Can we create one 160GB drive using FAT32? I was under the impression that FAT32 would limit the size of the drive. |

FAT32 is the usual choice in that situation, although I don't know offhand if it'll cope with a single 160 gig partition. _________________ Per Ardua Ad Astra

Does it have to be a single partition? If you split it 60/100 or 80/80 or something, it should be fine like that. _________________ Per Ardua Ad Astra

We're looking into that, it looks like 80/80 is the way we'll go. Thank guys. |

You can make a single partition that big, however Windows Server install CDs will not let you do it (they want you to use NTFS). However if you make the partition(s) with a tool other then the windows installer, windows will still read it fine.
I have done this before to get around the windows installer size limit for fat32. |
