I have a USB keyboard that I'd like to use as a system keyboard on an Ultra 60. When I plug it in, dmesg reports:
Code: |
hub.c: new USB device 00:02.0-2.1, assigned address 6
input: USB HID v0.01 Keyboard [Alps Electric Apple USB Keyboard] on usb1:6.0
|
Then I type a few keystrokes on the keyboard, and nothing seems to happen. Keystrokes from the keyboard are not picked up in X or on the console.
Then I plug in my USB mouse into the keyboard, and I see:
Code: |
hub.c: new USB device 00:02.0-2.3, assigned address 7
input: USB HID v10.01 Mouse [Logitech USB-PS/2 Optical Mouse] on usb1:7.0
|
.. and the mouse works. At least rudimentally, the USB piping to and from the keyboard works. I know the keyboard itself works, as I can plug it into my laptop and use it.
Am I missing something really basic here, as to why the keyboard isn't functioning as a system keyboard as you would expect?

EDIT: And oh, it's a 2.4 kernel -- Gentoo 2.4.31-sparc |

Yeah .. to answer my own question:
USB keyboards don't work under sparc, on a linux 2.4 kernel.
Answer: run a 2.6 kernel (and in my case, 2.6.14 is running great on this U60).
edit: USB keyboard's don't work on Ultras with a serial keyboard as the system keyboard. |
