The patch fix's some problems that i've had since 2.6.12-nitro5 (Possible earlyer since i only just upgraded to amd64).

3) What are those Layer7 patches, and where can I find them?

They're for network traffic classification so I can do things like prioritize http above bittorrent.

http://l7-filter.sourceforge.net/
or
emerge l7-filter

Thanks

I knew that sounded familliar, thanks for reminding me because I wanted to do the same thing. If you get the Layer7 patches working please let me know so I can give it a try also.

Edit:
I figured out what was causing those nvidia errors, it was the same thing that happened on the 2.6.12-rc2-nitro1 but did not happen on 2.6.12-nitro5. If I disable power management completely which I don't need, nvidia-agp doesn't compile because it has to do something with the agp-suspend? That's as much as I understand since I'm not a kernel developer.

And I also get that logo compile error, so I had to disable all logo support to make it work. I would also have to agree with that guy about menu colors. I'm not going to complain and whine about them but for the next release perhaps you can reconsider? ;) The green is very hard to see on the grey sometimes, maybe if you changed the background to black it would be quite nice.

Time to reboot and see if it works, thanks for the nitro-sources. And another thing is I like how clean you made this thread, tiger went a bit overboard with all the colors and warnings/announcements every time :)

Edit:
I'm now running the new nitro-sources. Everything works (except forced to have power management and no nitro-logo). Btw, thanks for adding the polling patch into the kernel, I appreciate it. Also, I just tried my port forwarding and guess what?
IT WORKS!!! :D :D :D :D :D :D
You can't believe how happy I am because I've been without port forwarding ever since 2.6.12-nitro5 was out in July. All those months without a single forwarded port. That means no DC++ or eMule (I run them in a windows virtual machien for now). I couldn't go back to 2.6.12-rc2-nitro1 when 2.6.12-nitro5 broke my port forwarding because of the reiser4 update my system would no longer be recognized by the older kernel. I couldn't use anything else because a. nitro kicks ass b. not much else supports reiser4 and c. I'm not that much of a developer to get into patching my own kernel. Now, time to go start downloading stuff :)

THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS NEW VERSION!!!! :) :) :) This is by far my favorite nitro release.

Yes, I was bright enough to catch that part. I was asking what problems specificly you were having? Such as, you couldn't get swsusp2 to compile, etc? I'm asking because I'm on amd64 also and the only problems I had were with swsusp2 and the logo so far.

Also, Does this have the bootsplash patch? If so, where is it? If not, how/where could i get that applied? I'm new to getting the bootsplash setup, so those may seem like stupid questions. Thanks.

Would also like to know, as I am using AMD64 perfectly, here, without it...though I don't have swsusp2 enabled (seems like it never compiles for me...maybe that's it!) and, of course, no logo.

argh.... "kernel BUG at fs/reiser4/block_alloc.c: 154"
anybody happen to know why this is happening?

Note: I'd of typed/copied all the rest of the error but I'm not in the mood to write 40 lines of bleh down on my handy dandy piece of paper. That and I don't know where this crud gets saved ...if at all.

Well i totally disabled ANYTHING to do with power managment and i was still getting compile errors. All i had was a bare kernel and it still didn't compile :?. Maby i just had something enabled in my .config that was breaking it :?:

If you read my post correctly you'd see that you actually need power management in order for the nvidia-agp to compile. So enable the basic power management and try that. If that still does not work, please post the specific error.

Does this prevent you from using reiser4 or the kernel? Because I often get errors and just about every kernel is bound to give some, but the thing that matters is if they are warnings or serious ones which prevent you from using it. Can you post a bit more details?

Nope, but we have gensplash (aka fbsplash). See [url=http://dev.gentoo.org/~spock/projects/gensplash/]this site[/url/ for more info. If I'm not mistaken, bootsplash is deprecated and no one is working on it anymore.

SuSE is still maintaining it and including it in their vendor kernels.

G'day,

I maintain the archck patchset, with similar goals to nitro, with but more of a focus on stability. I release bootsplash patched archck's occasionally when the archie liveCD needs them, and upon request.

http://iphitus.loudas.com/archck.php

Bootsplash patches used are from http://bootsplash.de/ Though I do recommend anyone using bootsplash to upgrade to fbsplash if your distro has support for it.

Thanks,
James

argh.... "kernel BUG at fs/reiser4/block_alloc.c: 154"
anybody happen to know why this is happening?

Does this prevent you from using reiser4 or the kernel? Because I often get errors and just about every kernel is bound to give some, but the thing that matters is if they are warnings or serious ones which prevent you from using it. Can you post a bit more details?

Everything goes fine, it looks like the everything is working until it gets down to around the part where it runs fsck.reiser4, then mr. error decides to join the party... then i get a ton of lines of gibberish and have to reboot. Now that I think of it...I upgraded to libaal-1.0.5 and reiser4progs-1.0.5 so maybe that has something to do with it...or not.

Maybe try to update your reiser4 partition to 1.05?
