So, I'm a big of a newb to this linux thing, and been real busy of late, so I haven't really done any hacking on my box since getting it up and running.

I updated Portage the other day, and it told me my profile was depracated! 2004.3.
Well, installing Gentoo was an entire weekends work, I don't imagine migrating will be painless, and frankly... I don't have the time.
Obviously I don't have to upgrade anything else any more, and just keep running what I got until it starts to break, but.. what are the consequences?
Will programs start to fail emerge, if I keep syncing? Can I keep my current portage snapshot, and chug away on this one for some time to come, or is that short lived as well?
Thanks for the advice.

Thanks Allucid.
I've been following some of the pain for AMD64 user's upgrading to 2005 w/ the multilib situation and GCC changes... but like I said, I just don't have the time right now to start screwing around w/ my box.
What are the consequences of not keeping up to date?

You can continue to use the old profile. More info: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-x86.xml?part=2&chap=1#doc_chap4

Thanks allucid, that helps a bit. So at some point, stuff's just going to stop emerging out of Portage I take it?
Thanks again.
