Hi all -
I'm a newbie in Sparc-Land. I'mm attempting to install on my new (old SparcStation 2. I connected an external cdrom on id6, and cannot get past the following message. Can anyone shed any light on this for me? I've looked through the forums, and although some problems come close, they are on more modern equipment, so it seems...
Thanks so much... in advance - I'm grateful for any pointers.

actually, being that this iso (1.1a) has booted hundreds of sparc stations and ultrasparcs successfully, i am unsure if the problem that you linked to is relevant. It is worth the research of the init= line doesnt work. I suggest the init= be used first as that is what 99% of the serial booting users have had to do to rectify similar probs.
So in short I would suggest that you try this first before anything else as it will only take a few minutes of your time. _________________ This message brought to you by a NON-microsoft product.

I had exactly the same problem when using a VT220 terminal, and was on the point of giving up, when I had the idea of trying to connect a monitor to my IPX box. To make it work, you need to fiddle with the PROM : if you do a 'printenv' from the OK prompt, you'll probably see that your input and output devices are set to ttya (the terminal). Doing:
Code: |
setenv output-device screen:1152x900x66
setenv input-device keyboard
|
...and rebooting might help (assuming you have a monitor and keyboard attached - you'll need a monitor with BNC connectors, and a weird cable to connect it to the box, and a SUN keyboard). |
