|
|
I'm using pcmcia-cs 3.2.1 and Linux 2.4.20; I've included the kernel driver for a Cisco aironet and its accompanying modules (yenta_socket, pcmcia_core, ds).
I've done rc-update add pcmcia default, and an oddity in behavior occurs.
When cardmgr is called while the system is booting, it exits with the error
select(): bad file descriptor
And yet, if /etc/init.d/pcmcia start is called from a command prompt, cardmgr starts properly and performs all the functions it should.
Seems a minor oddity, and I have builtin ethernet on this laptop anyway, but it'll be a PITA on a wireless-only network. Any thoughts? _________________ // -- http://www.BRAD-X.com/ -- // |

Couple of updated points;
1) The error occurs either with the kernel PCMCIA or the standalone drivers
2) If one starts /etc/init.d/pcmcia by hand, first, it starts without incident
3) If one waits for the system to start AFTER pcmcia has died with a bad file descriptor, one gets this:
Code: | Odyssey:~ # /etc/init.d/pcmcia start
* Starting pcmcia...
cardmgr[2109]: watching 2 sockets
cardmgr[2109]: could not adjust resource: IO ports 0xc00-0xcff: Device or resource busy
cardmgr[2109]: could not adjust resource: IO ports 0x100-0x4ff: Device or resource busy
cardmgr[2109]: could not adjust resource: memory 0xc0000-0xfffff: Input/output error
cardmgr[2109]: could not adjust resource: memory 0x60000000-0x60ffffff: Input/output error
cardmgr[2109]: could not adjust resource: memory 0xa0000000-0xa0ffffff: Input/output error
cardmgr[2109]: could not adjust resource: IO ports 0xa00-0xaff: Device or resource busy [ ok ] |
Still baffled over here.
Inspiron 8100, vanilla-sources 2.4.20, pcmcia-cs 3.2.1, 3.2.3 tested. _________________ // -- http://www.BRAD-X.com/ -- // |

A similar discussion with a possible solution lives here: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=54403.
Happy hunting.
