When I try to resize my ext3 partition using the bootdisk from one of the mirrors.. (version .21 i belive) i get an error:
Filesystem has incompatible feature enabled.

Something i need to disable or remove before I can start my resize?

Best Regards,
Xenarion

You probably have the dir_index feature enabled. It is turned on by default by recent versions of mke2fs. See this thread for how to disable it. Note that you don't have to convert to ext2 as mentioned there.

Ok, thanks for the reply. What exactly is dir_index? And do i really need to mount my / in another computer? Err.. Does it have to be that hard?

You don't have to mount it in another computer you just need to use a boot disk. The gentoo cd you used to install should do nicely. It's really not that hard.

As far as what dir_index is. It is a flag to let the kernel know that the filesystem is HTree compatible. Most 2.4 kernels don't have the HTree code so this flag makes no difference. However, for at least one version the gentoo-sources had the HTree patch. The current HTree code is buggy however and can cause fs corruption. It got me twice.
And versions of e2fsprogs prior to 1.29 don't understand it, hence your problem with parted.
