I recently did an unmerge gaim && emerge gaim-cvs, being a cvs build gaim-cvs kept crashing, which sucks because I liked a lot of the new features(Side-tabs, spell checking etc)
After a day or two I went ahead and unmerge gaim-cvs && emerge gaim...so Imagine my surprise when I still had spell-checking and side-tabs in Gaim!
I don't know if they are just not publicly posted settings for Gaim, but I have all the neat cvs features with the stability of the non-cvs build.

Never tried it, but I don't have to, gaim-cvs has never crashed on me 
I update gaim-cvs every now and then, and never had problems with it. |
