|
|
Hello. I have a hp pavilion zv5000 with an AMD64 Athlon CPU. I quicly found that after typing in "emerge -pv [some package]", it spits out (-3dnow) and (-mmx). The use flags seem to be masked.
Can anyone please help me find a way unmask them?

PS: I HAVE read a lot about portage and I know about putting use flags in make.conf. Portage just seems to think that my arch doesn't support 3dnow or mmx. |

The 3dnow, mmx, mmx2, sse, sse2 flags are all hard masked ON on amd64 because all amd64s have those features. |

Here is an exact quote when I try "emerge -pv xorg-x11"
Quote: | [ebuild R ] x11-base/xorg-x11-6.8.2-r2 (-3dfx) (-3dnow) +bitmap-fonts -cjk -debug -dlloader -dmx +doc -font-server -insecure-drivers +ipv6 -minimal (-mmx) +nls -nocxx +opengl +pam -sdk (-sse) -static +truetype-fonts +type1-fonts (-uclibc) -xprint +xv 0 kB

To me it looks like 3dnow and mmx is hard masked off. |

Those are masked on the AMD64 profile because they're not optional. All AMD64 processors have those features, so to make the developers' lives a little easier they're always enabled where possible. _________________ ~~ Peter: Programmer, Mathematician, STEM & Free Software Advocate, Enlightened Agent, Transhumanist, Fedora contributor
