From the developers website.

http://developer.kde.org/development-versions/kde-3.5-release-plan.html
Quote:

KDE 3.5 Release Plan
The following is the outline for our KDE 3.5 release schedule.
KDE 3.5 is the fifth (and this time really last) feature release in the KDE 3.x series.
The list of planned features can be found in a separate document.
All dates given here are subject to revision, but we will try our best to stick to them if possible.
Stephan Kulow is acting as release coordinator for the 3.5 releases.
KDE 3.5
........................
September 10th, 2005: tags/KDE/3.5-beta1 created
The 3.5 branch is tagged as Beta 1 and is frozen for nonurgent commits till 14th.

September 13th, 2005: Beta1 is prepared
Beta 1 is prepared and released after some initial testing. The incoming bugs will be reviewed for their severity.

October 9th, 2005: tags/KDE/3.5-beta2 created
The 3.5 branch is tagged as Beta 2 and is frozen for nonurgent commits till 12th.

October 12th, 2005: Beta2 is prepared
Beta 2 is prepared and released after some initial testing. The incoming bugs will be reviewed for their severity.

November 7th, 2005: Total release freeze
This is the very last for commiting anything that isn't reviewed on the development lists. If in doubt, ask the release coordinator.

November 9th, 2005: Release Candidate 1
We will release 3.5.0 as first release candidate and then wait for show stoppers to appear.

November 23rd, 2005: Targetted Release Date

could you have a look at this please?
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-2794955.html#2794955

Quote:
By using "sys-apps/hal-0.5.4" it should be unnecessary to modify /etc/fstab, expecially hardcoding removable media into fstab.

There is definately a problem with kde-3.5 and gnome-2.12. They both successfully mount removable media (using pmount?) but do not recognize that the device has been mounted (because they still depend on fstab entries?).
Trying to access the media gives you "volume already mounted" error messages.

kde 3.5.0 beta2 is out.

The code I posted originally works with beta2, as it's greater than or equal to beta1 unmasking. Enjoy :X.

EDIT:
I've used the -vorbis use flag on kioslaves and its fine now, but I'd still like to get this fixed. The kdemultimedia-kfile-plugins package exhibits the same problem. I imagine Akode will too, but I've not got round to compiling that yet.

ORIGINAL:
Hi guys,

I'm trying to install KDE 3.5 beta2 but when it comes to compiling kdemultimedia-kioslaves, it fails with this:

Code:

checking for ogg_page_version in -logg... yes
checking vorbis/vorbisfile.h usability... yes
checking vorbis/vorbisfile.h presence... yes
checking for vorbis/vorbisfile.h... yes
checking for vorbis_info_init in -lvorbis... yes
checking for ov_open in -lvorbisfile... yes
checking for vorbis_info_clear in -lvorbisenc... no
checking for vorbis_bitrate_addblock in -lvorbisenc... no
configure: error: --with-vorbis was given, but test for Ogg Vorbis failed

!!! ERROR: kde-base/kdemultimedia-kioslaves-3.5.0_beta2 failed.
!!! Function kde_src_compile, Line 156, Exitcode 1
!!! died running ./configure, kde_src_compile:configure
!!! If you need support, post the topmost build error, NOT this status message.

libvorbis is installed and I have tried reemerging it!

What should I do to sort this out?

Thanks,
Jon

This may also come in handy:
for packages in kde-base/*; do emerge -C "=${packages}-3.5_beta1"; done
;)

Okay, color me stupid. I'm doing a fresh install.

KDE 3.5 stable ebuilds are now available in Portage, although there are no files for them. KDE webpage still has release pegged for Nov 29. Anybody got any idea as to the timetable?

Ahhh, November 29 then I guess. :P

Its normal for the ebuild to show up in portage before the packages are available.

They just changed that release date. it was the 23rd last time I looked (yesterday or so).

Oh and there's rc2 src up now too so if it is going to be a week maybe we need to get some rc2 ebuilds.
ftp://ftp.kde.org/pub/kde/unstable/3.5-rc2/src

I emerge the rc2 of arts, kdelibs and the kdebase packages that were already rc1 (others still at beta*). I just replaced the tarballs with the new files and digested everything. Worked fine, one ebuild failed that had a irrelevant patch to my system. It didn't solve my problems I'm having with ebay and and local browsers though. I had to put all ebay.com traffic through my routers web proxy so search.ebay.com wouldn't time-out at random times. It seems like it could be something in kde triggering it but it happens with firefox at times too so I'm thinking something in the default network configs somehow. It's happening on 2 separate gentoo boxes but not the windows laptop with firefox and even on gentoo with firefox it works most of the time but not always. Anway I can't say it's kde 3.5 for sure or gentoo....
