Oh yeah! It should run great ... I've run gentoo on an ultra5 before, and it worked out great. Compiling is real slow, so installing the system will take a really long time (as will upgrades). However, it should run great. I actually administer an ultra5 (450mHz, 1G ram) that runs apache2, php5, mysql-client and python. This server runs a mailman listserv for a small university as well as two mediawiki virtualhosts for two different departments. However, that said, I must admit, rather than maintain it as a gentoo machine, I was lazy and installed debian. That was also a political decision because my co-worker is a straight up solaris guy; there was no way he'd have gone for learning gentoo. Furthermore, as we all know though in this forum, gentoo should give you better performance overall. On a final note, that machine actually runs much faster than solaris on the same machine (that's not much of a surprise though ). _________________
