I absolutely love Gentoo's config layout- very intuitive and orderly, nothing like the usual ugly mess of *NIX configuration- but I've been having nothing but trouble with Portage. Is there an easier *NIX that might be worth trying? |

I like debian an it's apt-get system, maybe to start you could better opt for Mandrake, it's got a slick gui-install and handles packages very well, these are not source-based but package based, where mandrake is i586 and debian i386. debian is a bit slower with it's packages because it prefers stability and security. _________________ "Remember there's a big difference between kneeling down and bending over.", Frank Zappa |

There is a really nice simple new distro called Desktop/LX. It is made by a company called Lycoris http://www.lycoris.com/ and used to be called Redmond Linux. |

I took a shot at FreeBSD, the inspiration for Gentoo, and it absolutely kicks a**. It also works with GCC 3.1 out of the box. :p |
