problem getting net.ath0 to fully start

i have done everything that i can think of to get this wireless working on my computer. i have wpa_supplicant and have edited the conf to look like this

Code: Select all

network={
        ssid="NetGear"
        key_mgmt=WPA-PSK
        #psk="TestPassHere"
        psk=b7e578d75dbe2fad957b17d2db9fafca50de8c3ae53ec491952a9beb448a5d86
        priority=99
}
for now, until i can get it working. i have my router set up using WPA-PSK as well, so naturally, thats what would happen when starting ath0, or at least i thought. iwconfig shows this for ath0

Code: Select all

root@localhost:~ iwconfig ath0
ath0      IEEE 802.11g  ESSID:"NETGEAR"  Nickname:"NETGEAR"
          Mode:Managed  Frequency:2.417 GHz  Access Point: FF:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF
          Bit Rate:1 Mb/s   Tx-Power:50 dBm   Sensitivity=0/3
          Retry:off   RTS thr:off   Fragment thr:off
          Encryption key:5465-7374-5061-7373-4865-7265   Security mode:restricted
          Power Management:off
          Link Quality=0/94 Signal level=-95 dBm Noise level=-95 dBm
          Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
          Tx excessive retries:0  Invalid misc:0   Missed beacon:0
so this is what happens when i try starting net.ath0.

Code: Select all

root@localhost:~ /etc/init.d/net.ath0 start
 * Starting ath0
 * Configuring wireless network for ath0
 *     ath0 connected to "NETGEAR" at 00:0F:B5:67:EE:68
 * in managed mode on channel 11 (WEP enabled - restricted)
 *   Bringing up ath0
 *     dhcp
 *       Running dhcpcd ...                                                                                 [ !! ]
notice it says WEP enabled instead of something about WPA-PSK. it just stalls at that last line until i ctrl+c out of it. am i missing something or will this just not work??

OK, the issue is that it's still using the iwconfig module and not wpa_supplicant. This is because we prefer iwconfig by default.

To change to wpa_supplicant, simply add this line to /etc/conf.d/net

Code: Select all

modules=( "wpa_supplicant" )
If you already have a modules line, simply add wpa_supplicant to it
Use dhcpcd for all your automated network configuration needs
Use dhcpcd-ui (GTK+/Qt) as your System Tray Network tool
