I have a thinkpad with a 2Ghz P4... Here is what /proc/cpuinfo says:
Code:
shiro splash # cat /proc/cpuinfo
processor       : 0
vendor_id       : GenuineIntel
cpu family      : 15
model           : 2
model name      : Mobile Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 - M CPU 2.00GHz
stepping        : 7
cpu MHz         : 1199.014
cache size      : 512 KB
...

It seems to be running at 1.2Ghz... :(
Also, dmesg says this:
Code:
simon@shiro simon $ dmesg | grep mhz -i
Detected 1199.014 MHz processor.
ide: Assuming 33MHz system bus speed for PIO modes; override with idebus=xx

Any ideas on how to crank this thing up?

The Pentium 4-M in your model is likely throttled down to 1.2Ghz when running on a battery. Where you running it on a battery when you noticed it running at 1.2Ghz?

No... I nearly always have it on AC power. The battery is removed, so I'm not constantly charging it.

I fixed it by applying the cpufreq kernel patch (which took a little manual hacking to get it onto 2.4.20-ck3) and putting echo -n 0%0%100%performance > /proc/cpufreq in /etc/conf.d/local.start

Now I have 2ghz. Yay.
