What do I need to do to get the HP backend to work with cups so that I can use the HP Device manager program? Is there support in a newer version of cups (~x86) or is it a config option. Can't find any info anywhere. Also what does the samba use flag do for cups? I know samba support but I had samba sharing a printer through cups before i knew that i didnt have it enabled. Anybody know any specifics? --cheers |

Hi. You can do like this.
Remove the printer in the cups setup.
Make sure that you have the ppds use flag set. Then emerge hplip.
Stop the cups '/etc/init.d/cupsd stop'
Then rc-update add hplip default' and start hplip.
/etc/init.d/hplip start
Startup cups and you should se the printer in the setup.
/etc/init.d/cupsd start
Now you should se your printer in the HP Device Manager (That get installed with hplip)
Good luck.
