Hi all!
Here's my prob. At some point this worked within the last week. I'm not exactly sure what was done buty now here's where I'm at:
Code: |
/dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy auto noauto,user 0 0
/dev/hda1 /boot ext2 noatime 1 1
/dev/hdd /mnt/dvd auto users,exec,noauto 0 0
/dev/hdc /mnt/cdrom auto users,exec,noauto 0 0
/dev/hda3 /mnt/c ntfs ro,user,uid=1000,gid=1000,umask=0227 0 0
/dev/sda1 /mnt/e ntfs ro,user,uid=1000,gid=1000,umask=0227 0 0
//blv/backup /mnt/blv smbfs rw,username=calvin,password=xxxxxx 0 0
//blv/calvin /mnt/calvin smbfs rw,username=calvin,password=xxxxxx 0 0
//moe/calvin /mnt/moe smbfs rw,username=calvin,password=xxxxxx,uid=calvin,gid=root 0 0
//leeharvey/public /mnt/laptop smbfs rw,noauto,username=calvin,uid=calvin,gid=root 0 0 |
My problem is media:/ only shows:
/boot
Floppy
/mnt/c
It also shows both cd and dvd drives when something is mounted.
My question is, why do I no longer see smbfs mounts, OR /mnt/e ? I can use smb:/ in konquerer just fine and can browse my mounted smbfs shares no problem.
In every way these mounts work 100%, I just can't media:/ to show everything anymore.
Anything needed to help solve ask and I'll post it!
cal

hi
it seems to be a problem with the new kde releases... no matter if i use hald or not (with or without fstab-entries), my kde won't show devices on the desktop, i have to link them manually, which can be rather annoying, if you plug them differently than before
I have searched the forums but have not yet found a solution. I'm not even sure, if it's a bug, because the problem seems to happen only, since I'm using split kde ebuilds... _________________ time is an illusion - break the clock! |

I could solve the problem with emerging kde-base/kdebase-kioslaves which does not seem to be in kde-meta _________________ time is an illusion - break the clock! |

Update:
So I knew at one point everything worked the way I wanted but couldn't figure out what had changed. Well, I think I have.
I emerged kdebase-kioslaves last night w/o HAL, and now it's operating exactly as it had. CD/DVD's automount, it shows SMBFS mounts, floppy, as well as both my NTFS HDD's. The only obvious exception is my digital camera doesn't show up in media:/. This is fine since all I need to do is open DigiKam to get my pics anyways.
I'm writing this off as media:/ still being in it's infancy, along w/ HAL support in KDE. Kde3.5 or 4 is going to up support for all this so I'll try again later and see if I can use HAL AND have everything show that I want.
Thx for the help.. |

calr0x,
Thanks for the info. I just installed did a new install of gentoo on another system. I installed KDE-3.4.2 and this was not working. A quick search on the forums gave this. Re-emerge kdebase-kioslave with USE="-hal" all works again. Any news on this does KDE developers know this? Is there a bug report on this? Is this isolated to Gentoos split ebuilds? Again thanks _________________ Thanks

My theory is this:
Since this whole hal thing IS still new, I think KDE right now has a choice:
1. Use HAL and have media ONLY show USB devices managed by HAL.
2. Use -hal and have a fstab-based media:/
KDE 3.5 integrates HAL properly into KDE. What this means is now we will get a "A CD has been inserted, what would you like to do?". And "Do nothing" is a choice btw for those that don't want an "auto-play' type feature.
Glad I helped ya! |
