I use the Gentoo livecd 1.4rc2 to boot my notebook, and use modprobe pcmcia_core, modprobe i82365, modprobe ds, cardmgr -f to load pcmcia support. The my NEC Aterm WL11CA pccard work perfectly. I use lsmod and find the hermes.o & orinoco_cs.o loaded.

I compile my kernel without pcmcia support, and emerge pcmcia-cs. I reboot my system, the wireless pccard don't work. and ds.o load failed.
why?

I use the driver provided by http://www.agere.com/support/drivers/linux%20driver%20sr02-1.zip under Debian, my wireless card work fine. but I use the same driver and installation on my gentoo system. the modules load failed. and display that the kernel I compiled is using gcc 3 ,but the wireless modules is compiled by gcc 2.

How can I compile the driver use gcc 3 to fit my kernel? or how to use the orinoco drivers provided by pcmcia-cs.

Thanks.

BTW: I also use the knoppix CD to boot my system. It auto load the hermes.o orinoco.o orinoco_cs.o for my wireless pccard, and work.
