I have had a strange issue arise with my Dell 8200 with PCI-to-PCMCIA bridge and Orinoco Silver PC Card. I re-installed Gentoo this weekend. I was able to boot from the 1.4_RC2 CD and load the applicable Orinoco modules and execute Cardmgr -f. Everything went well with the installation. By the way, I have ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" in make.conf uncommented.
After rebooting, the kernel loaded correctly and Init executed the PCMCIA init script. When viewing the lsmod, it appears that all the applicable PCMCIA/Orinoco modules loaded properly. However, when Cardmgr is execute is gives a high beep, the low beep. Executing ifconfig shows no eth0 interface.
By the way, I compiled the kernel without PCMCIA/Cardbus support and only the Wireless (without drivers) option.
When I view the log, I see a message saying the "resource is unavailable". I thought there may be some issues with pcmcia-cs-3.2.3, so I tried 3.2.1 with the same issue.
Here is the funny part, prior to this rebuild, I had the system humming along perfectly. Cardmgr would recongnize and initialize the card on boot.
Could this have something to do with the fact that I have emerged some un-"stable" packages? |
