So anyway,
Some time ago, I figured I'd go ahead and compile and install e17, but it didn't work quite right and so I now want to remove it and install e16 instead.
My question is how to remove e17. I didn't emerge it using cvs. Instead I just downloaded the componets and ./configure, make, make install(ed) manually. Unfortunatly, being the noob that I am, I'm not really sure how to undo that.
Suggestions?
Thanks!

Did you try downloading the e16 file, and see if it overwrites the e17 files? |

Yeah, but I don't believe it did anything. When I tried running enlightenment (# enlightenment) from the command line, it just brought up the old e17 error. |

Where did they install to? If it's in /usr/local it should be fairly obvious - mine tends to be pretty empty in Gentoo.
Otherwise it's going to be awkward - let that be a lesson, you should always use Portage _________________ What are you, stupid? |

most of it is in usr/local, it seems. Is it as easy as just removing the files or is there more to it than that? I guess I'm still used to Windows and that abysmal registry.

If you still have your old source tree, you can go into it and do a 'make uninstall'. _________________ "The simplest schoolboy is now familiar with facts for which Archimedes would have sacrificed his life."

Brilliant! That's exactly what I needed. Thank all for your input in the matter.

From now on use something like ./configure --prefix=/usr/devel/e17. Saves a lot of time. Btw make uninstall is not safe. _________________ It isn't enough to win - everyone else must lose, and you also have to rub it in their face (maybe chop off an arm too for good measure).
