Hi,
I fooled around with Gentoo back w/ the 2004.0 packages on an old Sony Laptop, and although loved it--never was disciplined enough not to use root as my main account. I often found that I would do something that would make my system worthless, so I took a break from learning Linux.
I'm ready to get back into it, but would request that if any of you have had issues with the componants I use, let me know so I can be prepared for them.
The computer I'll be installing it on has the follow hardware inside:
-SUS A8N-SLI Deluxe MB
-MD 64 3500+ ATHLON 64 939
-(2x) Corsair TwinX-3200 512 MB chips
-(2x) Seagate SATA 160GB HD (Not in Raid)
-eVGA GF6800GT 256MB (PCI-X Flavor)
-Netgear WG311T WiFi Network card (PCI)
-Plextor 16X PX-716SA/SW
-LOGITECH|MX-1000 Laser Mouse
-LOGITECH|ELITE BLACK KEYBOARD
I already attempted to use the 2005.0 cd at one point but couldn't get the keyboard (connected via USB) to work. Help w/ that would be a great feat already.
Many thanks in advance. |

Hi and welcome to the forums.
Gentoo should have little problems with your system. I have the same mainboard and it works - although I've never been able to get any sound from the digital coaxial output. Your disks and graphics card are no problem - just don't forget to enable the support for SATA in your kernel. It will be probably easier to configure your wireless card after installing Gentoo.
Your keyboard might require you to enable or disable, sorry but I'm not sure, the USB legacy support in the BIOS. You might also need to press some particular key for it to work after booting. Some keyboards require pressing keys such as SCROLL LOCK, SYSRQ, right CTRL or ESC. _________________ Jorge.

I'm not sure but check if there is something like "legacy support" in bios, that should do the job(I mean the usb keyboard) _________________ (\ /)

So I popped in the AMD64 Universal 2005.1 Live CD-- (got the keyboard working, btw--thanks guys) BUT...
during the initial boot up, it gives me the error "no bootable medium found" -- it doesn't even get to checking DHCP, or detecting video hardware etc.
Any ideas?
my 2 hard-drives and CD rom are connected to the SATA bus. No raid configured |

Well, it seems that there are still a few problems with SATA cd-roms. You should search in the forum for issues relating to this.
You should start by looking at this thread very close to this one. _________________ Jorge.
