A R505GL VAIO.
Trying to get an SMC 2435W to work.
The card is a brand new model so SMC hasn't released a Linux driver yet.
Got the pcmcia slot running.
When I cardctl ident, I got:
product info: "Wireless Network CardBus PC Card", "Global", "", ""
manfid: 0x0097, 0x8402
PCI id: 0x104c, 0x8400
what's the next thing I can do if I dun have a driver from SMC?
Any suggetsion is appreciated.

If there really are no drivers for that card you may have to install without a network connection. I hope that doesn't happen as it would be nice to be able to do a normal install. However, you might be out of luck.

If you've already got Gentoo installed then this post should be somewhere else. I'm moving it to Hardware & Laptops because there's lot of people there who have setup wireless cards and perhaps one of them has used your model.

A google search reveals that this card uses
a Texas Instruments ACX-100 chipset.
There is a discuss on a binary only Linux driver for this chipset
at http://www.seattlewireless.net/index.cgi/DlinkDwl650Plus
