I have a Toshiba 1905-301 laptop and I'd like to find out the horizontal and vertical sync for my XF86Config file. The file references a document called "Monitors", but this appears to no longer exist in new versions of XFree86. Is there a database somewhere where I can find out the screen info?

Have you checked Toshiba's webb site for spec's on your laptop? Try xfree.org's site, linuxonlaptops site (sorry don't remember the link, try google) someone else may have posted their install technique.
If you have windows running check out all the driver/config info you can find.

As far as I know all LCD screens run with a fixed vertical refresh rate at 60 Hz and the horizontal may be different on different LCD screens. My laptop (Inspiron 4150 UXGA screen) is running HorizSync 31.5-90 |

I just entered a really big ranges for both horzi and vert. This seemed to do the trick in order to get my 1600x1200 LCD working on a laptop |
