I got Half-Life 2 & CS:S installed on my system by installing Steam through P2P and using Steam to install Half-Life2 & CS:S, but whenever I load the game I get a black screen w/ a mouse pointer. If I move my mouse around I can hear my pointer moving over menu items, and using that I can quit the game (by memorizing where menu items are located).
I am currently running Gentoo kernel 2.6.12-r6, with ATI-DRIVERS fglrx 8.14.13-r2.
My system specs are: 1.6ghz pentium-m w/ ATI Mobility 9000M (64 mb)
I know some of you guys had similar problems. I was wondering if anybody has figured out how to fix it yet? Thanks. |

This doesn't help your problem, but you might as well give up right now. A processor that slow, coupled with an ATI video card, will get you maybe a couple of FPS if you even do get it working in the end. My 2.4 GHz CPU with a Radeon 9600 XT is barely playable at lowest settings.
As to the problem... make sure Cedega knows how much memory the video card has, try running it in a window, and try forcing Direct3D 8 or even 7. |

Mine does the whole black screen thing as well, solved it by running HL2 with Directx 7 (DX8 also failed to work) |

I think with a moderately low resoution (say 800x600), it'll run just fine.
I'm running at around 30-40fps with 1280x1024 resolution, with moderate-high settings, on an Athlon XP 2800+ with a Radeon 9600xt.
By the way, your black screen problem is most likely the PixelShaders. Make sure you have them turned off.
Or add this to the end of your ~/.transgaming/config if you're using cedega manually:
Code: |
;; Half-life 2
[AppDefaults\\hl2.exe\\d3dgl]
"PixelShaders" = "N"

Good luck,
