Hello,

has anyone ever tried running a SuSE (9.1) kernel with a Gentoo installation?
I'm looking for kernel 2.6 support for my FastTrack 378 from Promise and they only offer a module for 2.6 kernel for SuSE 9.1 (sources are only available for 2.4 kernels) so I was wondering if it would be possible to just use the kernel and the provided modules from the latest SuSE 9.1 update...
Could there be any trouble with glibc or gcc versions? Will the provided modules work with the gentoo-style module loading? (using the Gentoo init scripts for module load)

Thanks and best regards,
Razor

I see no reason why these modules shouldn't load under gentoo.
I'm just curious, what exactly is a suse kernel? As long as it's built for your arch with everything you need compiled in or added as modules, you should be good to go.

Just install the kernel source rpm and compile it like a normal kernel.

Well, I think of all kernels made for linux as linux kernels, and mixed with a lack of sleep it seemed to me, since he/she was afraid it wouldn't work with gentoo, like suse might have made an insane attempt at making a kernel only working with suse. Quite silly, I know.
