This happened lately.. and i dont really know what upgrade or what did
it but i did it again ..
the computer wont reboot or shutdown anymore
im using 2.6.12-r8 and all the latest including today's base layout.
APM wont start telling me that it's not compiled in the kernel ..
but it's definitely one of the options chosen and in the .config
file ..
So i rebuilt apm . rebuilt the kernel multiple times but the result is
always the same ..
remounting remaining filesystems read only [ok] then it's hung there ..
If anyone's got a good idea .. im willing to try it

I have a similar problem where reboot works ok but the shutdown command dosen't it also hangs at the same place as yours, but whats worse is the power switch won't respond. I have to unplug my computer or turn off th PS switch which can't be good for my system. |

While we're at it, I have three Gentoo boxen and one of them won't power off on its own. The OS will shut down okay, but it can't seem to switch itself off after doing all the other shutdown stuff. Is there some kernel option I've missed? It's running on a bit older hardware than my other systems, say, maybe the 2000-2001 timeframe. |
