Hello all,

Yesturday I started installing gentoo 2005.0 on the sparcstation,
I get keyboard problems on xorg (working in shell). (mouse is working well)

I found in "sticky" topic some instructions to solve the problem.

I followed this :
Quote:
Part of the difficulties arise because xorg.conf is not compatible between kernels for keyboards and mice. First of all, before posting configuration difficulties, please keep the following points in mind:

* With kernel 2.4, xorg-x11 must be built on a kernel 2.4 system.
* With kernel-2.4:

o Your keyboard driver must be 'keyboard';
o Your keyboard looks like a sun keyboard to xorg;
o Your mouse is /dev/sunmouse;
o Your mouse's protocol is Mousesystems.

then problem apears while I ran X. so I tryed to use this solution
Quote:
there is also available a Gentoo-specific patch at https://bugs.gentoo.org Bug 61940, patchid=63633. If you wish to try this out, please see that Bug and follow the instructions at Comment 24.

Therefore The problem is still the same.
I'm using a type 5 keyboard....
I also have some type 4 keyboards, if I connect a type 4 keyboard (as solution for a few days), will I still have problems ?

regards

Apparently, there is a problem with the binary distribution of xorg-x11 on 2005.0 and kernel 2.4.xx: See https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=92122

There are two solutions to that particular problem: (1) just 'emerge xorg-x11' on your system with /usr/src/linux pointing to a 2.4.xx kernel; (2) Convert to kernel-2.6.xx (which should work without difficulty on a U5).

No, using type 4 keyboard will not help.

Now, it is not completely clear from your post whether or not you have rebuilt xorg-x11 (to apply that patch, you must); with that patch, the keyboard failure with 'kbd' driver is fixed. There can still be issues of your xorg.conf does not match your actual keyboard --- a not uncommon problem arises from having a keyboard with a layout for country A, but specifying it as a country B keyboard (Scandinavian or French keyboards specified as US-English seems to be a common oversight.). Beyond this, it is hard to guess what might be going on without a little more information.

Hope this gives you some ideas;
Regards,
