I saw a new ebuild for ymessenger so I installed it. The install added a bunch of gnome stuff. When I tried to run it I got the following error:
$ /opt/ymessenger/bin/ymessenger.bin
gtkhtml-WARNING **: gconf is not initialized, please call gconf_init before using GtkHTML library. Meanwhile it's initialized by gtkhtml itself.
gtkhtml-ERROR **: gconf error: Failed to contact configuration server (a likely cause of this is that you have an existing configuration server (gconfd) running, but it isn't reachable from here - if you're logged in from two machines at once, you may need to enable TCP networking for ORBit)
aborting...
Could anyone tell me how to run this down? I have gconf but it doesn't run as a daemon so the second message is confusing. There isn's a gconf_init binary so the first message doesn't make sense either. I tried messing around with the gconf binaries but didn't get anything enlightening. _________________ And what rough beast, its hour come round at last

I had the same problem, the only way it works for me now was to unmerge and go back to "ymessenger-0.99.19"
The ebuild for "ymessenger-0.99.19.1" must be broke.
Sorry, but the old one does work. |

Thanks, I was about to do that. I guess that's what I get for doing gratuitous updates. _________________ And what rough beast, its hour come round at last

I figured out what my problem was. In my home directory, something created .gconf and .gconfd directories owned by root. I did a chown -R on them and now it works.
There's no way I could have inferred this problem from the error messages. That's another reason why I use Fluxbox instead of Gnome. _________________ And what rough beast, its hour come round at last
