Evolution 2.2.1.1 crashes fairly regularly for me doing different tasks. I tried to go back to my prior stable version, but masking 2.2.1.1 and re-emerging (version 2.0.4) fails with:

Code:
checking for libegroupwise-1.0 >= 1.0.4... Package libegroupwise-1.0 was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `libegroupwise-1.0.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
No package 'libegroupwise-1.0' found

configure: error: Library requirements (libegroupwise-1.0 >= 1.0.4) not met; consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if your libraries are in a nonstandard prefix so pkg-config can find them.

!!! Please attach the config.log to your bug report:
!!! /var/tmp/portage/evolution-2.0.4/work/evolution-2.0.4/config.log

!!! ERROR: mail-client/evolution-2.0.4 failed.
!!! Function econf, Line 485, Exitcode 0
!!! econf failed
!!! If you need support, post the topmost build error, NOT this status message.

I was wondering if others have this problem and if there is a better workaround. Searching through bugzilla, there seems to be an evolution-2.2.2 in the works that isn't in portage yet. Adding these ebuilds to an overlay and building evo 2.2.2 is beyond me.

Is it related to dbus running (for Skype) even though I have dbus notification set to Off in evolution?

The reproducible error I'm getting is 1) start evolution, 2) click on any message, 3) click reply, 4) click close, 5) go to 2 several times (<4), 6) crash.

This is the console output (in case it rings any bells):
Code:

es menu class init

The only solution I found was to go back to evolution 2.0.4 and the oldest versions of it's dependencies (evolution-data-server, gal, libgtkhtml, etc.).

Have you tried 2.2.3? it fixed a few bugs I had. Perhaps it will fix your crashing issues?

Yes, I tried 2.2.3, but I had the same problem. When I opened a window (I think only to reply), then it would crash after the 3rd or so time I did so. I'm guessing that is a problem with libgtkhtml.

I think the other route is to rebuild all these tools with the debug USE flag and submit the backtrace to the evolution developer mailing list. I couldn't find the same problem in their bugzilla.

My solution (to go to 2.0.4) is not going to work as I have gnome-2.10-r1 and it requires the following unfortunately:
Code:

        >=gnome-extra/evolution-data-server-1.2.1-r1
        >=mail-client/evolution-2.2.1
        >=gnome-extra/evolution-webcal-2.2.0
        >=gnome-extra/gal-2.4.1
        >=gnome-extra/libgtkhtml-3.6.1

even though 2.0.4 works fine. I don't think going back in gnome version is a good idea.

After doing a fresh build on another Opteron machine, I found that emerging skype (which has dbus as a dependency) broke evolution in the manner described above. Otherwise, evolution ran fine.

In case anyone else encounters this.

I have this problem has well. Output from command line is:

Quote:

es menu class init
adding hook target 'source'
update flow align
BBDB spinning up...

and evolution just hangs. I'd kinda like the ability to send emails from my email application...
