I have been burning cds with graveman adn gnomebaker (both use mkisofs for data cds) and have been having an average burn time of around 6 or 7 minutes. Lately, however, mkisofs has been taking forever. We're talking 20-30 minutes when the system is idle. It goes fast until about 30% and then all of a sudden it takes up 98% cpu, takes for-fucking-ever to finish, and makes the rest of my system very unresponsive in the process. Is anybody else having this problem?

Hi,

check for 'famd' going hayway (use [h]top) and/or check if your harddisk (perhaps the one with the /tmp on it) is nearly full.

top shows mkisofs using ~94%. famd is hardly on the map. I have 6.5 gigs free in /tmp. I'll have to run some tests and see if I can figure anything out but don't have much time right now.

Something interesting. I have the file I'm trying to burn (mkisofs) on a fat32 partition. Now if I cd into that partition and mkisofs a file it works great:

Code:
[blaksaga@alf Uptown Girls] mkisofs -debug -o ug.iso Uptown\ Girls.avi
graft_dir: ' : ', node: 'Uptown Girls.avi', short_name: 'Uptown Girls.avi'

However, if I set the output to my reiserfs partition (/tmp) it hogs cpu usage and takes a long damn time to finish:

Any ideas what could be causing it to act like this?

Alright, I think I found the problem. I had too much shit in /tmp. Deleting everything in /tmp fixed the problem. I wasn't low on disk space or anything...just had a shitton in /tmp.

Is /tmp on its own partition?

Damn it I'm having this problem again. I gets to about 60% and then starts bombing out taking all my resources and going very slowly. HELP!?
