I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this behavior:
When using dvdrip with xvid (of xvid-cvs) it hangs during the first pass at 97.9% every time. If I kill the transcode process and select divx5 in dvdrip, the encode works perfectly. I'd prefer to use xvid for obvious reasons. I have tried using transcode 0.6.0 and 0.6.2 and 0.6.3.20030116-r1... they have all had the same result (also tried two versions of avifile).

I have re-emerged transcode, avifile, xvid, and mjpegtools numerous times. The only change is that transcode 0.6.0 results in a segfault when using xvid instead of a hang. I'm using xvid 0.9.0.

Any thoughts?

I'm having the same problem - the only difference between a prior working setup and the current hanging is that previously I compiled xvid myself and installed it in /usr/local/bin (now I'm using an ebuild) and the upgrade from dvdrip 48.5 to 48.8.

I might try compiling my own xvid from source again and see if that makes a difference. Maybe I'm optimising it too much; -march=athlon-xp -mmmx -msse -m3dnow -O3 -mfpmath=sse -pipe.
