Problem booting MIPS LiveCD on SGI O2

Hi!

I got a problem booting my SGI O2 with the last MIPS Live CD (the one from the Gentoo Newsletter on June 13th). Everything works fine (just like in the readme file) but at the end i get the following:

here it stops...

my system:

IP32 R5000
PROM Monitor Version 4.12

anybody got an idea what i can do to boot??

Hmm, could you give me some more information about your O2, e.g. is that a r5000 180mhz, 200mhz, or is it the 300mhz rm5200 (which the prom should report as r5000)? Also, how did you burn the cd? If you used something in windows (or perhaps macos too...no experience/knowledge of that), it is very likely that it wasn't burned properly. The livecd image isn't a regular iso. Rather, it is a raw disk image that has a sgi disklabel and multiple partitions. So far, I've only heard complaints and failures from anybody trying to use the livecd image with anything but cdrecord. In any case, the rc4 livecd works just fine for me here on ip32 (and ip22 for that matter).

hi!

it's a ip32 180MHz r5000 and i burned the cd with nero on a windows machine.
i burned the cd again using cdrecord and tried it on an octane. here it works perfectly. but also with the new cd i get the same error.

update:
i took another O2 (same specs) and tried the cd there. here it works perfectly! so maybe the first one is broke...

now that this is done i got one question:
whats the "easiest" way to install gentoo? the machine just needs a graphical web browser so there is no need to optimize. please correct me if i'm wrong but i would start with point 3 (configuring the network) in the gentoo/mips manual.

I'd suggest just doing a Stage3, then installing/configuring KDE.

Firefox is out for the moment, until we can solve the issues with running it on a Gentoo userland, but Konqueror does a pretty good job IMHO, and so should do what you want.
