when im in xfce4 gaim 1.3 works perfect. no issues no crashes. i finished gnome 2.10 and decided to boot into that and now gaim stays open for 2 seconds, sometimes 3 and then just closes. is anyone else having an issue with these 2 together.
edit- i decided to run it in a terminal to see what error is output when it crashes and heres what i get.

Thats weird because I'm running Gnome 2.10 and Gaim 1.3 and I haven't had any problems yet. |

Try gaim -d or running in gdb and doing a backtrace. BTW Running 1.3 and Gnome 2.10.1 here just fine. |

Well, it seems to be a very strange problem. Same here with gnome 2.10.1 and gaim 1.3.0. The wierdest thing is, the problem occured from today on, while I'm running gnome 2.10.1 and gaim 1.3 for about a week...
edit: Deleting the all files in my ~/.gaim/ directory except accounts.xml does the trick for me... |

Happening for me as well. Only from today.
Did some tests.
If I delete ~/.gaim all is good the first time I start and rebuilt my setup. If I close the app and restart, it crashes every time I try to send a message.
I downgraded to 1.2.1 and still had the problem.

In that case - i'd guess it'd be one of the moduiles your adding / setting your using thats causing an issue
try doing things slowly to see which causes a problem
btw - Gnome 2.10 and Gaim 1.3 work fine for me. _________________ Tim

I started with a new msn account and didn't go near preferences. Setup one buddy. Restarted. Bombed out as soon as I tried to send. _________________ //\/\ark |

Try a different sound method in prefs. It sounds like it is trying to play a sound and bombing out. |

Mine is doing the same thing except I can launch it and connect and everything but as soon as I try to open an IM window it crashes and the output is this
Code: |
Gaim has segfaulted and attempted to dump a core file.
This is a bug in the software and has happened through
no fault of your own.
It is possible that this bug is already fixed in CVS.
If you can reproduce the crash, please notify the gaim
maintainers by reporting a bug at
http://gaim.sourceforge.net/bug.php
Please make sure to specify what you were doing at the time,
and post the backtrace from the core file. If you do not know
how to get the backtrace, please get instructions at
http://gaim.sourceforge.net/gdb.php. If you need further
assistance, please IM either RobFlynn or SeanEgn and
they can help you.

If I downgrade to 1.2.1 it works fine. But the 1.3 series is doing this.
Any ideas? Ive tried erasing .gaim but it still does it.
All the other functions in GAIM work but opening an IM window crashes it every time. |

Ok, I think I've tracked down the problem. I was reading thru the gaim bugzilla and one of the bugs reported said that this behavior is seen on Gentoo due to the spellchecking having a bug in either enchant or gtkspell. I disabled spellchecking and now it doesn't crash. |

When I updated gnome to 2.10, my gaim reverted back to 1.1.4 =/ It was 1.3.1 =X
EDIT: I figured out what was happening. For some reason 1.1.4 was installed in /usr/local/lib/gaim while newer versions were being installed in /usr/lib/gaim. So once I updated gnome, the old binary was being executed rather than the new one. |
