I was just wondering how difficult it is to get a 2.6 kernel running on an Ultra 5 and if anything other than the standard 2.4->2.6 kernel migration path was needed. My U5 is somewhat inaccessible, so I'd prefer to be able to do this remotely. *Fingers crossed* Any pointers or tips on this? Is gentoo-sources the best option for the 2.6 kernel? (I use gentoo-sources on all my x86 machines)

Yeah, your u5 would be fine fog g-d-s. Most of the remaining problems are specific to sym2 scsi controllers or SMP. I've been using 2.6 for well over a year on my u10.

Thanks eradicator. I just didn't want to screw up my box while it's headless. I guess I'll do that this weekend.

Thanks again.
