|
|
Hey All-
I have an Artec WRR-4848 that i jsut picked up new for 20 bucks... this is a 48x12x48 burner, but from what I've found online, it needs a firmware upgrade to do a good job.
I can attest to this after 4 coasters in a row. It buffer underruns when its not in DAO mode as it wont use buffer underrun protection.
In TAO mode, the disc doesnt play as an audio cd. I havent tried data CD's yet.
I'm using SCSI Emulation and it ends up using the generic SCSI CDRW driver.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
My BOX:
Watercooled Athlon 2400+
Epox 8kha+
256MB PC2100
Promise tx2
2x40GB RAID0
1x120GB backup drive
Artec WRR-4848
Geforce2 MX 400
SB PCI128
431W P/S
THANKS! |

Yikes! I doubt that would work. Give it a shot if you don't mind turning your drive into a paperweight. If they have a dos firmware update tool use that with a boot disk. Otherwise put the drive in a windows box temporarily to upgrade it.
Oh, and don't forget to flame the company for making their tools windows only. |

Hey-
I tried it and it doesnt work, luckily, I think it only gets through the copy of the bios to my hard disk ,then hangs, so i think the drive is still ok.
i'm going to setup a windows bax now and try it out. lata! |

Okay--
I setup a windows box (cely 300a @ 450...ah that brings me back )
The drive works fine, but doesnt play audio cd's... It will get the id from cddb but never plays. i'm going to try to set it up as an ide burner and see if it helps.
any ideas?
thanks! |

Well, the only things I can think of off the top of my head is make sure the audio cable is hooked up and cd is unmuted in the mixer. Does the cd not play at all or do you just get no sound? |

it doesnt play at all, but i found after using a different cd app it works fine.
it is a little strange considering my old cdrw played fine through gnome-cdplayer
i can't say that i extremely happy with this unit, but it does seem to work.
i guess that's what you get for 20 bux
-- although it *was* $60 bux originally |
