|
|
I just tried to emerge quake3 but when I try to run it (using /usr/games/bin/quake3) I get a permission denied. During the emerge it complained about a games user and group not existing so I created these and added myself to the games group but it still won't work. I then tried to re-emerge quake3 but it is still complaining about this group/user not existing, even though they are clearly there: Code: | games::35:evinyatar | and Code: | games:x:35:35:games:/usr/games:/bin/false |
And still I can't even cd to /usr/games or /opt/quake3. Any clues would be greatly appreciated. |

Have a look at the permissions, the ebuild chowns the files to the games group, which obviously was not possible which leaves you with files being accessible by root only I suppose. Try to reemerge or chown yourself. |

Well, that's the funny bit; the owner and group were set correctly but I still couldn't cd to them, or launch Quake 3.
I chowned them to my user account now, so it works (except for the sound for some dumb reason), but it's still odd that it didn't work. User and group were both set to games for all the relevant files and directories (/opt/quake3 and /usr/games and everything therein). |

Are you sure you're in the games group. If you just added yourself to the games group you have to logon again so that group information is updated. Other option is to use a command which I can't remember that reloads the group information |
