Hi everyone, please be patient im a newb to gentoo. As a matter of fact I am very proud of myself because I am learning fast :)
My first problem is I cant for the life of me get ALSA to work, I followed gentoo guide and numerous posts but It dosnt seem like I gonna beat this one.
When I follow gentoo's "ALSA GUIDE" It tells me to find my card and driver on the driver matrix, I don't see anything for Sound Blaster Audigy MP3 but I do see one for Audigy gamer, the driver appears to be :audigy: but I have been trying emu10k1 because I cannot emerge any driver that has anything to do with Audigy. at this point i have "sound card support" and "emu10k1" set in the kernel at MODULES.
Could someone please tell me exactly what i need to emerge or download and any help getting ALSA up and running.
1 problem Is i think i ermerged also a couple times...maybe that messed it up.

p.s: I'm noticing some unresolved links when I try update-modules.. maybe that a clue.
unresolved links are...emu10k1.o and soundcore.o.
--Also whe I reboot gentoo, as the system shutsdown I notice an error saying "ALSA driver not loaded" man what did I miss?? ... plus for "USE" tags, do I have to insert ; alsa or -alsa or nothing???

Again total newb here, but my appreciation for help is sincerely apreciated.

casper

if you want support for alsa in other programs (mplayer // xmms etc. )
you want alsa in your useflags

when you do a emerge alsa-driver you compile for every snd card
you can do somehting like env ALSA_CARDS="audigy" && emerge alsa-driver to compile only the audigy snd driver
