I am looking for a solution to run mp3's remotely.
I have two rooms each with computers - each connected to a sound system. I want to start each computer playing the same sounds simultaneously from either box. I was thinking I could go about it in 2 ways:
1 - have both computer use NFS to mount the same drive where the mp3's are and write a script to start the remote computer xmms/mp3blaster (using something like rsh) and then the local xmms/mp3blaster both with the same playlist from the shared drive.
2 - Stream the music from one computer to the other at the same time that it's going to the soundcard.
Is this feasible? Have any of you ever run into this kind of thing before? and is there already a software made for this purpose? |

You could try some kind of icecast setup to stream the sound from one machine. But there will probably be a delay due to the network, so the audio won't be synchronized between the two machines. I'll look around and see if there is a better solution. |

you can use icecast, and then have BOTH machines use something like XMMS to connect to the stream. (one to the remote machine, and the other to localhost)
that should be in sync then) |
