Hello!
I just emerged Eclipse 2.1.2-r1 on a sunblade...

When I run eclipse (or eclipse-motif), an error occured, notified with the typical message

I have made eclipse work on sparc linux, but not with this ebuild. It was pretty messy, and I am somewhat surprised
the ebuild does as well as it does, unless the eclipse maintainers have access to a sparc system.

The problem you are seeing is doubtless related to the shared libraries (that is, to their not
being built, not in the right place, being the solaris versions, or similar.)

Please submit a bug report describing just what you have reported here, please copy me on it
(fmccor@gentoo.org) because I am writing you this note.

Thanks to karltk, the cvs version of eclipse-sdk-2.1.3-r3 seems to build, install, and run correctly. At least, it gets beyond the start-up error and gives you the correct eclipse GUI.

After your next 'emerge sync', please look at the ebuild for dev-utll/eclipse-sdk-2.1.3-r3, and if has the '~sparc' keyword, please try it in place of 2.1.2-r1.

Please report back how it works for you. Report either on this forum or as a comment to bug
https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=52048

Thanks,
Ferris

Thank you for the report and for the feedback. I've passed it on to karltk.

I see that the latest version that I can emerge on my sparc is still eclipse 2.1.
What about eclipse 3.0 or 3.1? I'd like to check out the perl plugin for eclipse and it needs at least eclipse 3.0. :(

Eclipse 3.0+ requires java 1.4.2 and at the moment the latest available on linux/sparc is 1.4.1.
