Gnome 2.2 Quirks

Since upgrading to Gnome 2.2:
1) I can't get gnome-terminal to start at a custom size.
2) Transparency in gnome-terminal is much slower (much like gnome 1.4 as opposed to 2.0)

Anyone have any idea on how to fix this?

I have my gnome-terminal launchers set the custom size with the --geometry option.
