Computer too slow?

Without more information, there isn't much we can do to help.

also check this guide out and try to turn down the graphics a little more.. that can increase overall upto 7fps :)

What FPS do you get on that? What DE/WM do you run?
To find out FPS
    Open console (`) and type com_showFPS 1
Open console (`) and run timedemo demo1 a couple of times to find average FPS

As I remember it I usually got 17-25fps, and average of 19 or something like that.. but I dont play doom 3 anymore.

Also here's my MyTweaks.cfg file (~/.doom3/base):
Code:

seta cm_backFaceCull "1"
seta r_vertexBufferMegs "64"
seta r_orderIndexes "1"
seta r_usePortals "1"
seta r_useOptimizedShadows "1"
#seta r_skipParticles "1" - Makes everything black dont USE unless ur desperate for FPS :P
seta r_skipFogLights "1"
seta r_skipMegaTexture "1"
seta r_useShadowCulling "1"
seta r_useLightCulling "3"
seta r_useCulling "2"
seta r_znear "2"
seta r_useInfiniteFarZ "1"
seta r_useStateCaching "1"
seta r_useVertexBuffers "1"
seta r_useCachedDynamicModels "1"
seta r_useTwoSidedStencil "1"
seta r_useTurboShadow "1"
seta r_useShadowProjectedCull "1"
seta g_projectileLights "0"
seta g_skipParticles "1"

Make that file readonly after you're done editing and add exec mytweaks.cfg to ~/.doom3/base/DoomConfig.cfg and make that readonly also (Doom3 overwrites it on run)

A GeForce 2 MX is just too slow to run Doom 3. A plain GeForce 2 is just about fast enough (at low resolution, all settings turned right down / off), but an MX is much slower (it's the low-end, crippled version). If you can, get a newer video card. Doesn't matter what - anything that you can buy will be a vast improvement over what you have now.

Obviously something huge is running in memory/cpu .. so run it in TWM/Failsafe terminal.. or just run X and launch the game from console, or you can use a script (run from console) that stops current X (safely).. launches new X with Doom 3 in root window.

Wow.. I was about to say you can still buy GeForce 2 MX, but I checked newegg and it turns out its off the "streets".. damn i'm so out of date. :( I wish I could get a job to save up for a new card.

try typing in

r_skiprender 1

i hear that increses 20 + fps because it stops the dash from being renderd and screen flashes

i remember a while back someone created low quality texture to run doom3 on two old voodoo cards. maybe you can find those textures and use them
