|
|
My computer setup is as it follows:
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ (Socket 754)
Asus K8N-E Deluxe
GeForce 4 Ti 4600
1024MB DDR 400
1x 40GB IDE HD
2x 80GB SATA HD - Raid Zero
ADSL Connection using PPPoE on the onboard network adapter
Will everything go just fine if i try to install it on my Raid Setup ? Or is it better to install it on the single IDE drive ?
Also, does Gentoo offers hardware detection support for my motherboard onboard components ? Such as sound and network adapter ?
Thanks a lot, i'm looking forward to use Gentoo as my Desktop and Video Editing Station ^^ |

If you can put all of your system to the RAID devices depends on wether there is a driver that can be built into the kernel.
Autodetection is at least partially done by genkernel (autoconfiguration of the kernel). Anything build into the kernel runs autodetection anyhow. Otherwise hodplug or coldplug do detect things as well.
For using all the features of your NVidia card you will need to emerge the NVidia drivers.
PS: RAID0 except for performance gain is not a too good choice... (if one of the disk crashes, then all data from both is gone) |

Thanks bonbons !
Well, to build the raid drivers on the kernel during the install is a dificult task ? If so i will choose to install on the ide drive.
Also, i know that raid 0 has its risks, but i´ve been using this strip for more than 2 years and everything is just fine. |
