Hi there,

I couldn't find a solution to this problem. I emerged Straw-0.25.1 and the only thing it does well is crashing no matter what I try to do with it as soon as it is launched.

Quote:

The application "straw" has quit unexpectedly. You can inform the developers of what happened ... blah-blah.

Any ideas?

Terminal output:

Quote:

self._item_factory = gtk.ItemFactory(gtk.Menu, '<feed_list_popup>')

It works for me. Did you recently emerge a new version of Python and not run python-updater?
If not, it could be dependencies. Try emerging the latest dependencies: pygtk, python-gnome, libgnome, libglade etc.

Its probably going to be removed from portage because its no longer being maintained upstream, according to a similar bug report to yours.

Well, as I already said: it surely doesn't work for me ;-).

I didn't do anything with Python until now:

Code:

...
>>> Regenerating /etc/ld.so.cache...
 * Caching service dependencies ...                                       [ ok ]>>> dev-lang/python-2.3.5 merged.

Code:

/usr/sbin/python-updater
 * Can't determine any previous Python version(s).

Straw just keeps on crashing happily since I emerged it yesterday.

Solution:

Code:

# emerge unmerge straw

Thanks for your help.

Also having problems with straw-0.25.1. I thought it was possibly libxml2 since i had just updated it, but that doesn't seem to be the problem. So downgrading from 2.6.19 to 2.6.17 had no effect. So the problem is somehwere else.

I filed a bug report and from that I got the following solution

unmask and install gnome-python-extras. Its dependencies are gnome-python-2.10.0, pygtk-2.6.0, and pyorbit-2.0.1. Once those are unmasked and installed straw-0.25.1 will work again.

So thanks goes out to the developers and maintainers that handle the bug reports.

So then shouldn't that version of straw be masked then? I know there are other versions (I don't think in Portage though) so it would be nice if they were there.
