I am surprised and also confused.
I´ve added sunrise to overlay layman but the requested ebuild version and the downloaded rpm version
don´t match:
dev-libs/liblightscribe-1.18.14.1 is what´s needed but downloadable system software is 1.18.15.1?
What else is new, please? |
real life is a little busy at the moment so i did not get that there is a new release
will update asap
my overlay already contains the upodate
sunrise will take some time |

That it´s got many many bugs I´ve heard but that it runs only as root is new to me.
Never mind - is it necessary at all? If it houses bugs galore noone should be
forced to rely on it? |

How much time, what do you think? Your ebuild obviously has not arrived yet:
Code: | sudo emerge -av liblightscribe
Passwort:
These are the packages that would be merged, in order:
Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild FU ] dev-libs/liblightscribe-1.18.14.1 [1.18.11.1-r1] USE="(multilib)" 802 kB [?=>1]
Total: 1 package (1 upgrade), Size of downloads: 802 kB
Fetch Restriction: 1 package (1 unsatisfied)
Portage tree and overlays:
[0] /usr/portage
[1] /var/lib/layman/sunrise
[?] indicates that the source repository could not be determined
Would you like to merge these packages? [Yes/No]

No activity on this thread since mid July!
Here I come again
Sorry
Wanted to print a dvd and got
Code: | Failed - error code 0x1081 |
both as user and as root.
Googling for it turned up nothing.
Any idea on these error codes anyone?

the second post says something about

LSCAPI_E_HARDWARE
HardwareError
External code for hardware (drive) related errors.
There was a problem with the drive, it returned an error on invalid data. |
http://www.lightscribe.com/discussionboards/index.aspx?g=posts&t=2260
this is a problem i cannot fix its in the binary.
register on the lightscribe forum and and post your error.
could you borrow a ls drive from someone else just for testing if it has something to do with the gentoo system (trail and error) |

Yep. the drive was completely locked there for a while but
something was accessing it.
I had to shut down the box, then opened the tray through
that little hole and when the BIOS pulled the tray back in and
I could use the button again, play audiocds, dvds and access
data cds I was certain the problem lies with qlscribe, liblightscribe
and/or kernel (?) not the drive itself.
Noone else here has a ls drive. Only one to go around.
Hot damn! |

Updates .........
Lately i have hacked a little on the lightscribe ebuilds.
i have changed and added some small things
1. the lightscribe-lacie ebuild got a new logo (took the eps from lacie's downlad page and let the ebuld convert it to a 128x128 pixel png the old was a bad 24x24 logo)
2. the liblightscribe ebuild now install a desktop file for the enhanced contrast changer it also got a nice logo (for this a new feature a new ebuild x11-apps/menu was added that helps to create a su authentification window depending on the desktop-system that is running gksu/kdesu/xfsu/.....)
3. the lightscribe-template ebuild got some new template's that has been added lately by lightscribe.com
4. all the ebuilds have been changed to be EAPI=2 and the correct entry for bypassing the LDFLAGS QA warning has been added
5. the lightscribe-lsprint ebuild now also compiles with --as-needed LDFLAG
so just a what is going on in the lightscribe overlay info

Hi Geos_One,
I've sync'ed up the sunrise overlay and done my eix-update, but the only lightscribe ebuild I'm finding now is dev-libs/liblightscribe. Did something happen to the other ones. As always, thank for your dedication in keeping this project alive.
UPDATE: OK, I found qlscribe too, but no lightscribe-simplelabler or lightscribe-lacie |

Thanks Mario,
At some point I lost that overlay (upgrade of layman, I suspect). |

Has anyone had the chance to look at the new software (June 2011) at lightscribe.com?
I'm trying to get it working, with no success so far, but it seems like real programs rather than the half-assed stuff that was available before. |

npaust,
Its still 32 bit only, that makes it half-assed in this 64 bit world. :) _________________ Regards,

yeah, I figured that out _after_ I went through the hassle of trying to install it.
makes me glad my drive didn't cost more than a non-lightscribe drive... |

I have installed dev-libs/liblightscribe-1.18.24.1 and qlscribe. I tried the ebuild: liblightscribe went okay but qlscribe failed to compile (see code box below for details), so I built qlscribe itself by hand from source (not ideal by any stretch, I know) and that seemed to work okay -- but it doesn't find a valid lightscribe drive. As an aside, I use my own /usr/local/portage/ overlay and I don't know if layman messes that up or not so I haven't ever bothered to ever use it. I suppose I should try because I'd like to give Enlightenment 17 a go (I've used e16 for years and years...), but that's another story.
As I mentioned above, when I run qlscribe, it complains that it cannot find any lightscribe compatible drives, although I do have one (Lite-on iHAS424 B GL1A). My guess is that it's not using liblightscribe or I'm missing something else, but I'm not sure. Frustrating. I guess I'll never be able to make my life Windows-free, despite having tried hard for 15 years, the last 8 of them faithful to Gentoo. ***sigh***
Here's the output from emerge when I try the ebuild app-cdr/qlscribe-0.15
Code: | ...snip...
Linking CXX executable qlscribe

Here's the evidence that liblightscribe exists as a product of the partially-completed emerge of qlscribe:
Code: |
luser@whatever ~ $ emerge -pv liblightscribe
These are the packages that would be merged, in order:
Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild Rf ] dev-libs/liblightscribe-1.18.24.1 USE="(multilib)" 0 kB [1]
Total: 1 package (1 reinstall), Size of downloads: 0 kB

Portage tree and overlays:
[0] /usr/portage
[1] /usr/local/portage

If I end up with LaCie, I'll move the drive to my Windows box and run the Windows version binary from there. Seems the easiest/most productive way forward.
But I am happy to work this through with anyone who cares to spend the time. |

Okay, well I think I solved my own problem...
(Note: I am doing all this on an amd64 multilib box)
I decided to try lacie's 4L-gui just for the heck of it. It gave me useful error output to the terminal.
Code: |
./4L-cli: error while loading shared libraries: liblightscribe.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
|
I found liblightscribe.so and liblightscribe.so.0.0.1 in /opt/lightscribe/lib32/ so I just symlinked them in /usr/lib32/
It also uses /etc/lightscribe.rc, which in my case included this:
Code: |
ResourceDir=/opt/lightscribe/lib32/lightscribe/res;
UpdateScriptDir=/opt/lightscribe/lib32/lightscribe/updates;
|
I fired up 4L-gui again and it found the drive this time. Yay.
4L-* seems to be a real speed demon: 14min to burn the image. "Let's see it!!!", I'm anxiously thinking... Waiting....Waiting...This is taking forever...Need more patience...Rome was built in less time...Suspense is killin me...Arrrgggghhhh...
Success!!! Looks like that symlinking did the trick. CD looks sweet too. Clearly "Lacie Minutes" are not equal to "Earth minutes" though. It actually took nearly 20min. But I am not complaining much, I am one step closer to ditching my Windows box for good.
And one other piece of fascinating news: qlscribe built just fine after the symlinking. hooray. (The source build could find the drive, but the ebuild version could not, both are 0.15).
Hopefully this will help someone else. |

Just putting this in as an interesting update.. I've already got this fixed but I thought it was curious..
http://paste.pocoo.org/show/566984/ is the build.log for qlscribe
The interesting thing is it kept failing until I executed 'ldconfig' before the emerge.. and then afterwards it installed like there was never a problem..
Don't know if that was just a problem specific to amd64 or what but if it's not specific maybe the ebuild should have ldconfig included in it? |
