I recently updated my whole system
emerge sync
emerge -uav world

Now I can't get my mail checker applet, nor can I see my usual bash console ( ctrl + alt + f1 , those) with the usual
user@host Folder prompt.. I just get user@host if i' m lucky
or
just
host ~/
at first I thought hey my /etc/host must be out of date.. but it doesn't seem like it...
I don't know what to do...

On the last emerge world , gnome-themes was blocking the merge so I unmerged it, could this be it

pardon my english

charles

If you updated baselayout in the last few days, you have a lot of etc-update merging to do, it changed quite a bit. The default bash prompt has changed a bit, so that if you're in the home directory you'll get ~ as the prompt.

Bumping this again...
I' ve been reading up a little in the forums. It seems that this is a comon problem with the updated version of gnome.
Can't seem to get my usual applets to load in the panels ( like wifi, or mail checker) . this is really anoying since they integrate great with the panels...

Missing them.. how can I get them back...

thanks
